ORDINANCE #1006
AN ORDINANCE FOR THE CITY OF ST JOHN, KANSAS AMENDING RATES CHARGED FOR WATER SUPPLIED BY THE CITY OF ST JOHN, REPEALING CODE SECTION 15-221
WHEREAS, the council of St John has reviewed the fees charged for services and costs allocated to the production and distribution of water, and WHEREAS, the city council deems it advisable to amend said fees to meet said cost.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF STJOHN, KANSAS THAT THE FOLLOWING FEES AND COSTS SHALL APPLY AS ENUMERATED, AND FURTHER THAT THE EXISTING CITY CODE SECTION 15-221 IS HEREBY REPEALED AND THE FOLLOWING IS SUBSTITUTED IN ITS PLACE.
Section 15-221 RATES: The rates per month for the use of water in the city shall be as follows:
- The monthly minimum rate is set at $17.45 for the first 3000 gallons a customer may consume.
- For each 1000 gallons of consumption over the first 3000 gallons the rate shall be $5.58 per 1000 gallons.
- An additional flat fee of $6.00 per month shall be charged to every customer who is billed for water, sewer, electric or solid waste services and is also protected by the city’s water system for fire safety as determined by city administration and the fire chief to finance capital improvements to the water system.
- The state mandated water protection fee of $0.32 for each 1000 gallons sold at retail by the city required by K.S.A. 82(a)-903 et.seq., shall be listed as a separate line item on the city’s billing, be maintained by the city as a special account and remitted quarterly to the Kansas Department of Revenue as required by law.
This rate shall go into effect on January 1st, 2012.

THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE IN EFFECT AFTER ITS PUBLICATION IN THE OFFICIAL CITY PAPER.
